Valentine Cupcakes

Sweet Hearts

Materials:

  • Betty Crocker® Party Rainbow Chip cake mix (or any cake mix .. preferably not chocolate as it will be colored later)
  • 12oz Milk
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable Oil
  • food color
  • Frosin' Pride ready to whip icing and filling
  • red baking cups
  • electric hand mixer
  • Wilton® tip 1M and 3
  • Wilton® Candy Melts in light chocolate
  • wax paper
  • 2 pastry bags

Procedure:

Step 1: Pour the cake mix, milk and oil into a mixer and using the paddle attachement, mix for 5-7 min at a medium-high speed. Let it set for 5 min and mix again for 2 min.

Step 2: Add a few drops of red food coloring to the batter until it turns a light pink color.

Step 3: Line a cupcake tray with red baking cups and using an ice-cream scoop, pour a scoop of batter into each cup. Bake at 350 ̊ F for 20-25min (some ovens may take more or less time).

Step 4: While the cupcakes are baking, mix your icing. Follow the directions on the Frostin' Pride package to whip your frosting together using your hand mixer.

Step 5: After your cupcakes are out of the oven and cooled for atleast 30 min, scoop the frosting into a pastry bag and using tip 1M, create a large swirl on your cupcake. (trick is to start from the outside and spiral in to create a peak)

Step 6: Melt a handful of candy melts using the directions on the package. Fill another pastry bag, this time with tip 3, with the melted chocolate. (Caution: It gets really hot!) Lay out a small sheet of wax paper on your work surface and pipe 24-30 hearts in different sizes and styles. (They break easily so make sure you have extras)

Step 7: Once they have hardened, carefully peel them off and place them on top of your frosted cupcakes. Don't forget to spread the love!
